Quick and Easy yet delicious Sorakaya Gravy

This veg is called Surakai in Tamil or Dudhi,Lauki in Hindi or Sorakaya in Telugu or Bottle Gourd in English. Well, during childhood I used to get confused between the names of Surakai and Peerkangai (Ridge gourd) and I was not having any clues that how my mom used to prepare such tasty dishes.



Ingredients:

  • Surakai/Sorakaya - 1
  • Roasted groundnut - Handful
  • Red Chillies - 5-6
  • Oil
  • Turmeric powder - 1pinch
  • Vadagam - 1Tbsp (or)
  • Mustard seeds and Urad dal - 1Tsp

Procedure:
  • Peel the skin and cut the Sorakaya into small pieces (you can remove the seeds if required).
  • In a deep vessel, add water till Sorakaya get immersed and cook with salt for 10mins in low flame.
  • Dry roast the red chillies and groundnut and grind together coarsely.
  • Once the Sorakaya is cooked add this chili and groundnut mix.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add vadagam or mustard seeds and urad dal, once they start splitter, add it to the dish.
  • Serve hot with white rice or rotis.
