Again this my favorite dish. Normally children's wont like karakuzhambu or Pulisu. Me and my brother are the same, we hate those days when mom prepares karakuzhambu.
But one fine day she prepared the same but in a different way and it was very delicious, mouth watering. And here goes the dish....
Ingredients:
Shallots - 8 to 10 (or)
Onions -2
Garlic bulb (2 whole garlic peeled)- 2
Tamarind - Lemon size
Coriander seeds - 2Tbsp
Toor Dal - 2Tbsp
Channa Dal - 1Tbsp
Red Chillies - 7-8 according to your taste
Curry leaves - 1strip
Oil
Ghee - 2Tbsp
Vadagam - 2Tbsp (For seasoning or use the following)
Mustrad Seeds - 1Tsp
Urad Dal - 1Tsp
Preparation
- Soak the tamarind in 2cups of water
- Peel the garlic and keep it aside
- Roast the coriander seeds, Toor Dal, Channa Dal and Red Chillies seperatly in a dry pan.
- Grind them into a fine powder.
- Heat the oil in a thick pan and add vadagam for seasoning else mustard seeds and urad dal and wait till they splitter . Add Curry leaves.
- Now add the Onions and peeled garlic and fry them for two minutes.
- Add the tamarind water and allow the shallots or onions and garlic to cook.
- Once the garlic is cooked, add the grinded powder.
- Make sure you have enough of water, because once this powder is added it becomes a very thick gravy .
- stir finely so that no lumps are formed.
- Cook for another 2 min, add 2 tbsp of ghee before the dish is done.
- Serve with white rice.
