The guar bean or cluster bean which is known as kothavarangai in Tamil/ Telugu - Mattikaya/ Hindi - Guvar. This is my mom's dish and I know most of the Tamilians would be knowing about this dish . But there is a bit change in what we do it here. My husband comment was, ' I am very much satisfied as if I had an non-veg dish. Good compliment isn't it ;)

Ingredients:
- Cluster beans - 1\4Kg
- Red Chilies - 5
- Onions - 4
- Channa dal or kadalai paruppu - handful/1cup
- Fennel Seeds - 2Tbsp (Tamil - Perunjeeragam /Telugu -Peddajeelakarra / Hindi - Variali / Kannada - Sompu)
- Mustard seeds - 1Tsp
- Urad dal - 2tsp
Procedure:
- Soak the Channa dal for about 3hrs or overnight.
- Finely chop the cluster beans and onions and keep it aside.
- Grind coarsely the channa dal, red chillies and the fennel seeds with little water and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a deep fry pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves.
- Once they split, add the finely chopped onions and fry till they turn transparent.
- Add the grinded masala and stir occasionally without forming lumps, once it is half cooked.
- Add the chopped cluster beans and salt, cook it low flame for about 10mins.
- Serve with white rice or with Roti.
